Free Red Dress Pin–Women’s Heart Health Awareness

red_dress

Update 10/5/11: It looks like this pin is out of stock.  The page is still worth checking out for links to other free health education materials (list on left side of page) from NIH.

Order (and wear) your free red dress pin to raise awareness of women’s heart health.  The free pin is offered by the US National Institutes of Health and is described as featuring “a delicate heart accent on red enamel.  Approximately 3/4” high.” Limit one pin per person.

To order go to the NIH red dress pin page, and on the right, enter 1 as the quantity (Qty.), then “Add to Cart”.  This will take you through a check-out process where you enter your mailing address and email – no payment info is required since the pin is free.

On the same webpage, scroll down to read comments from women who have had (or know someone with) heart disease.

Heart disease is currently the #1 killer of women, and is not kind to men either.  Here are some heart disease risk factors according to the NIH site.  Taking positive steps against any or all of these will help to reduce your own risk:

  • Smoking
  • Diabetes
  • Overweight
  • Physical inactivity (check out ideas on how to learn yoga for free)
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
